Peer Tutoring

Free peer tutoring is available to all registered OU students. You can drop in* for tutoring at any time it’s offered for supported courses you are enrolled in. Curious what to expect for drop-in tutoring? See the FAQs below to learn more, set up a meeting with an academic coach, or connect with us.

Comprehensive Tutoring Schedule

*Tutoring for a few select courses is only by appointment. These are noted on the schedule.

Our peer tutoring program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.

Why is tutoring only available for select courses?

We primarily support 1000 and 2000-level courses that are traditionally difficult for many OU students. For many courses not on our list, we can still find someone who can support you or can help you develop effective strategies for approaching the course. Connect with us or meet with an academic coach so we can find the best resource to meet your needs.

How do I prepare for tutoring? What should I bring with me?

Bring course materials like books, notes and/or a way to access the course Moodle page. The syllabus for a course can also be a very useful resource. The ASC has computers available for student use. The nearest WEPA print stations are in North Foundation Hall and the OC.

What is tutoring like?

When you arrive at the ASC, you’ll check in with the desk. The desk staff will direct you to a table where a peer tutor will be available for your course. Find a space at the table and get yourself organized, e.g., pull up relevant materials or questions you have. Peer tutors often work with several students at a time, so you should anticipate working on your own while you wait your turn.

Peer tutors are excited to clarify course concepts, model problem-solving strategies, and help you develop effective study strategies in your courses. Tutors are not able to check your answers, solve your homework questions, or otherwise directly contribute to a graded assignment. Instead, Tutors are passionate about empowering you to find these solutions independently with relevant techniques.

How often can I attend tutoring?
You may attend tutoring any time and stay for as long as you need during the tutor’s availability. When a tutor is unavailable, you are welcome to continue to study in the ASC as long as we are open. There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions a student can attend.
My course is not on your schedule. Is there a way I can request you add it?

If you are looking for tutoring for a course not on our current schedule, let us know and/or reach out to one of our academic coaches who can help connect you with other resources that may be a good fit.

None of the tutoring options work with my schedule or preferred modality. Can I request other times or formats?

If you are looking for support not represented on our current schedule, let us know or reach out to one of our academic coaches. We want to help connect all students with available resources that align with your needs.

Select courses in Music and French offer appointment-only tutoring.

To schedule an appointment in those courses, login to TracCloud and select the "Search for Tutoring" option.

If you are unable to find your course on our tutoring schedule, fill out the tutoring request form and we'll get back to you. Typically, we focus on 1000-2000 level courses. Not all requests can be fulfilled, but we'll do our best to help!

You can also schedule an Academic Support appointment with one of our ASC professionals to learn study strategies, find ways to successfully manage assignments and prepare for exams. Click here for more information!
