Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering
The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the General Criteria and the Bioengineering Program Criteria. The program combines training in biology with depth in either computation or engineering. It includes calculus-level math and physics, comprehensive chemistry and advanced-level biological sciences.
To earn the degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Bioengineering, students must complete 129 credit hours. The first two years of the program mainly include foundations in the sciences and engineering, while the specialized courses are offered in the third and fourth years.
Professional Tracks:
The Biomedical Imaging and Signal Processing track explores the analysis of biological signals and medical imaging. Students learn to interpret physiological signals, understand imaging techniques, and apply computational methods. Medical physics provides the foundational science behind these technologies, ensuring a strong grasp of imaging principles for diagnostics and treatment.
The Bioinformatics and Genome Engineering track blends genetics and data science. Coursework covers gene manipulation for biotech applications, data management and computational techniques to analyze biological data for various applications, including genome analysis.
The Molecular Engineering track focuses on biotechnology and microbial applications. Students learn large-scale biological production, explore microbial genetics and industrial applications and acquire essential engineering principles for biological systems.
The Tissue Engineering track prepares students for regenerative medicine and biomaterial design. Coursework covers scaffold-based tissue growth and artificial organ development as well as ensuring engineered tissues and devices withstand physiological forces.
