2025 Summer Camps: Grades 4-12

 

Philosophy Camp
Grades: 9th-12th, June 23-27, overnight

Philosophy Camp is an overnight summer camp that provides high school students and undergraduates with an opportunity that combines learning, leadership and humor.

Our 2025 theme is The Shape of Freedom.

We will be exploring what it means for a human being to be free, what sorts of internal or external captivity people experience, how political or moral freedom should be understood and what sorts of constraints might be compatible with a life of flourishing.

This year, we are planning an exciting trip to downtown Detroit to explore the history of the Underground Railroad.

BIO Camp: Explore the Science of Life
Grades 6th-8th, July 21-25, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Experience a day in the life of a biologist. This camp will provide middle school students with hands-on learning in Biological Sciences, including genetics, microbiology, ecology and environmental biology.

Students will conduct lab and field research projects that incorporate elements of STEAM education.

Students will explore the OU campus, visit research labs, OU Biological Preserve and Campus Student Organic Farm. This camp will incorporate team building activities, project-based learning and STEAM education.

Language and Culture Camps — French, Japanese, Spanish, Sureth (Aramaic)
Grades 4th-9th, June and July

Welcome to a week of French, Japanese and Spanish language and culture!

Designed for students in grades 4th-9th.

Campers will learn about the language and the people who speak it through active participation in culturally authentic, fun activities. No previous experience required.

Spanish Camp

  • June 16-20, 8 a.m. - noon
  • July 21-25, 8 a.m. - noon

French Camp

  • June 23-27, 8 a.m. - noon

Japanese Camp

  • July 7-11, 8 a.m. - noon

Camp Fee: $290

Introduction to Sureth

The "Introduction to Sureth" summer camp helps children (ages 4-9) familiarize themselves with the language also known as Chaldean or Assyrian. Age-appropriate materials and activities are included in this five-week camp.

Introduction to Quantum Physics Camp
Grades 10th-12th, June 23-July 3, 1 - 4 p.m.

In a series of lectures on quantum physics, Professor Evgeniy Khain will discuss revolutionary ideas in physics that were developed in the beginning of the 20th century. We will focus on the Nobel Prize-winning research of five scientists, including the work of Einstein, Rutherford and Bohr. How do objects absorb and emit light, and what are the mysteries of the structure of the atom? Some of these intriguing questions will be answered both theoretically and in lab demonstrations.

Summer Mathematics Institute 

For Bright and Gifted Pre-College Students

The Summer Mathematics Institute is a free opportunity for bright and gifted pre-college students to interact with university faculty and each other, to take some challenging math classes that earn college credit, and have fun in an academic atmosphere. The Institute runs approximately from late June through the first week of August each summer. Students are encouraged to apply early (before the deadline of mid-May).
