The OU Pledge is the university’s commitment to providing undergraduate students with the opportunity for meaningful, hands-on learning. Communication, Journalism, and Public Relations students in OU’s College of Arts and Science engage in experiential learning through their participation in research or teaching assistantships, community work, project based course work, and well as student and professional organizations, including:
- Our nationally recognized chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America
- The Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society
- Work with real clients in Public Relations and Advertising courses
- Participate in community-oriented service work in Communication courses
- Practice desired skills such as public speaking and professional communication in Communication courses
- Create and pitch multi-media news stories in Journalism and Media Studies courses
- Hands on studio work to develop skills in digital media production and broadcasting
- Involvement in campus media, including the Oakland Post and WXOU
- Develop and create portfolios of completed projects to use in job seeking
- Field trips to local media outlets, public relations and advertising agencies
