CJPR Professional Advisory Council
The Department of Communication, Journalism, and PR (CJPR) is pleased to announce the creation of the CJPR Professional Advisory Council (PAC).
The council is a diverse group of rising and established CJPR professionals in the Metro-Detroit area committed to supporting the success of the students, faculty, and department by fostering a stronger relationship and the exchange of information between academe, industry, and government. The council works in an advisory capacity to provide mentoring, advocacy, and counsel to enhance the preparedness of students in a continually changing industry, to aid students in gaining a competitive advantage as they transition from school to work, and to promote the overall advancement of the department and university through the sharing of professional expertise. The volunteer industry and government members of the council may serve the department by:
- Providing mentorship and professional development opportunities to students through classroom visits, experiential learning opportunities, one-on-one mentoring, and/or the hosting of interns;
- Exchanging information related to student needs projections, job market outlook, industry updates, and best practices;
- Offering insight on student preparedness and feedback on curricula, scholarships, and internships;
- Promoting the reputation and advancement of the department and university in the broader community; and/or
- Contributing additional professional expertise, counsel and feedback as needed.
The council will strive to provide a diversity of industry representation from within the fields of communication, journalism, media, and public relations. The council will seek members who are student centered, committed to the positive development and growth of the department, university, and field, and enthusiastic about the mission and purpose of higher education.
