Nick Monacelli
Nick Monacelli is a reporter and anchor for Local 4 Detroit. He also serves as a lecturer in the Department of Communication, Journalism, and Public Relations at Oakland University, where he teaches Introduction to Live Television Production and TV Newsroom. His expertise in media production and storytelling has made him a sought-after lecturer. He is dedicated to mentoring students and helping them develop the skills necessary for successful careers in media and communications. His role on the Department of Communication, Journalism and Public Relations Professional Advisory Council is further evidence of his commitment to guiding the next generation of journalists.
Monacelli has always had a deep passion for television and journalism. He started his career by producing a teenage talk show at Shelby TV, which ultimately opened the door for him as a reporter. He leveraged this experience to secure a reporting role at WZZM 13 news team in Grand Rapids. A subsequent opportunity with the same organization prompted his move to Sacramento. There, he worked as an anchor and reporter for News 10, and his coverage of regional fires earned him the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District’s Media Excellence Award. Later, he made his way home to the metro-Detroit area, where he has become one of the most trusted sources of news in Michigan.
Monacelli earned his bachelor's degree in Broadcast News from Grand Valley State University, where he also served as an instructor. His expertise in both reporting and mentoring was cultivated through his own mentorship from the renowned reporter, anchor, and news director, Philip Nye, whose legacy Monacelli keeps alive through his deep commitment to the profession.
