Campus Accessibility
Campus buildings and parking:
The majority of OU campus terrain is easily navigated, but not all buildings and facilities on campus are fully accessible. The interactive Campus Accessibility Map is color-coded and shows the level of accessibility for pathways, buildings and doors. Accessible parking is identified by blue lines and handicapped signs in the various campus parking lots. State-authorized disability parking permits or license plates are required and must be displayed. The University does not require any additional permits.
Accessible housing services:
The Office of University Housing makes accessible units available upon request. Students must register with the Disability Support Services Office to indicate their needs, and then a formal request will be sent to University Housing. For information on accessible off-campus housing in Oakland or Macomb counties, contact the Oakland & Macomb Center for Independent Living.
Door openers:
Door openers are available for most University buildings. “Clickers” can be loaned to students and returned when no longer needed.
Snow priority route:
Oakland University strives to ensure that campus parking lots remain as safe and clear of snow as possible throughout the winter months. The Campus Accessibility Map lists accessible walkways as well as those that are a snow-clearing priority. You also can refer to Snow Emergency procedures in the event of inclement weather.
Recreation Center/OU Credit Union O’Rena:
University Recreation and Well-being offers a variety of exercise equipment specifically designed for people with disabilities who are interested in fitness. There also is an OU guide for guests with a disability planning to attend events at the OU Credit Union O’Rena.
