PARENT AND FAMILY INFORMATION

The First Year Advising Center will make sure your student has a smooth transition to Oakland University. But don’t worry — we also know that it is important for you to stay in the loop.  We offer a variety of resources for family members to stay updated and involved with your student's success.

Oakland University understands the important role parents and family members play in their students' transition to college. Orientation is designed to acquaint you to campus resources and support services for newly admitted Oakland University students. During New Student Orientation, you and your student will attend sessions together and separately in order to meet the diverse needs of students and parent and family members.

Your newly admitted student can register for Orientation through their admitted student portal and follow the prompts to add guests.

If you have any questions, please contact the Orientation and New Student Programs Office at [email protected] or 248-370-4653.

As your student's first year comes to a close, we wanted to thank you for all you've done to support them. We were lucky to work alongside an amazing class of first-year students, and we hope they felt supported and empowered to achieve their very best.  We wish you a safe and fun-filled summer!

We've enjoyed helping your student get a strong start at OU. In May, students will be transitioning to the advising unit for their major, who will guide them through to graduation.
Any student who has made positive academic progress this year and has declared a major will make this switch in the coming weeks. Shortly after that, your student will be assigned a new academic adviser and their name and contact information will be visible on their MySAIL home screen under the "Academic Profile" widget.
