Current Student Sign-Up

Are you planning to live on campus next year?

We'd love to have you! Everything you need to know about how to sign up for on-campus housing for the 2024-25 academic year can be found below. It is a straightforward, three-step process.

New for 2024: Living Learning Communities
Before participating in room selection, learn more about University Housing's three brand-new living learning communities.

Step 1: Submit a contract
Fall 2024-Winter 2025 contracts will become available at 8 a.m. on February 1, 2024. You may submit your housing contract anytime between February 1 and March 1, 2024.

Step 2: Choose your roommate
Roommate matching will begin at 8 a.m. on March 11, 2024 and will continue through Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Step 3: Choose your room
You will be provided a day and time to select your room during the room selection process. The room selection process will take place between Tuesday, March 19, 2024 and Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Here are the specific details for each step:

Step 1: Submitting a contract

  • Begin the sign-up process by submitting an online contractYou may submit a contract any time after 8 a.m. on February 1 through March 1. The date on which you submit your contract within this month-long period will have no impact on where you fall in line to select a room.

  • At the end of the contract submission period, you will be assigned a priority number. Your priority number will determine where you will fall in line to select a room. Priority numbers will be assigned according to the number of credit hours you have earned. Students with the highest number of earned credit hours will select rooms first. Any ties between students will be broken by randomization. For example, if ten students have earned 54 credit hours, the software platform used for room assignments will randomly sort those students and assign priority numbers accordingly.

  • Submitting your contract by March 1 ensures you will be able to participate in the roommate matching period and room selection process.

Step 2: Choosing your roommate

  • On Thursday, March 7, 2024, you will receive an email that explains how to participate in the roommate matching period.

  • The roommate matching period will begin at 8 a.m. on March 11, 2024 and last through Sunday, March 31, 2024.

  • Roommate matching is optional; you may choose to not participate if you do not have a preferred roommate.

  • Benefits of roommate matching include establishing your preferred roommate(s), and allowing the member of your pair or group with the lowest assigned priority number to select a room for all.

  • It is important to note, however, that your pair or group will only be able to select from rooms for which all members of the pair or group are eligible. For example: if one member of your pair is a member of the Honors College, and one is not, you will not be able to select a room in Oak View Hall, which is only open to members of the Honors College.

  • Roommate matching must be done in accordance with established guidelines. We recommend reviewing these guidelines carefully before the period begins so you are prepared and informed.

  • You can view a video tutorial on how to match with a roommate here.

Step 3: Choosing your room

  • On Monday, March 18, 2024, you will receive an email containing your updated designated priority number and the date and time you are eligible to select a room.

  • During your designated time, you will log in to the My Housing portal, and follow the steps shown below to choose your room.

    1. If you have not yet selected a roommate, but have someone you would like to room with, you may do the following: from the left-hand navigation menu, choose Room Selection, then Select RoommatesEnter your preferred roommate's information, then click on Request Roommate. Repeat this process for all preferred roommates (you may choose up to three). Roommate requests must be mutual, so be sure that the person or people you request also request YOU when they select their room.

    2. From the navigation menu on the top of the page, choose Room Selection, then Select a Room/Suite.

    3. To view the rooms that are available, click Search Available Rooms in the Select from Rooms List drop-down. If you have a specific building in mind, you are welcome to select the desired building from the Campus Area drop-down before clicking Search Available Rooms.

    4. Select your preferred room by clicking Select Room/Suite under your room of choice.

    5. Select a bed for you, and if applicable, your roommate in your desired room/suite, then click Submit Room Selection.

  • Please note that all room selections are considered final.

  • Please remember that if you are in a matched roommate pair or group, you will only see spaces that are able to accommodate all members of the pair or group among the spaces available for selection. If you would like to un-match with your roommate(s) in order to see a wider selection of available spaces, click the Remove button in the three-dot drop-down menu to the left of the name of your matched roommate(s) in the Roommate Requests section of the My Housing portal.

  • A note about the Student Apartments: Please be aware that our Student Apartments are a very popular location and both complexes will fill very quickly during the room selection process. If you are eligible to live in the student apartments and do not see the apartments listed among the available spaces when your room selection time arrives, it means that the apartments have reached capacity and there is no longer space available to accommodate you.

Finally, some FAQs: May I still submit a contract AFTER March 1?
Yes, you may! Please just be aware that to be eligible to participate in the roommate matching and room selection processes, you must submit a contract by March 1. Students who submit a contract after March 1 will be assigned to a room by University Housing, as space permits, and will not have the opportunity to select their own roommate.

I understand that priority numbers are assigned by credit hours earned. Does this mean the number of credits I have NOW, or the number I will have at the end of the winter semester?
Priority numbers are assigned based on the number of credit hours you have earned as of the day you submit your contract. The priority number assignment process mirrors the course registration process used by the University.

Who can live in which buildings?
Hamlin Hall is dedicated to freshmen only. Oak View Hall is dedicated to Honors College students only. Vandenberg Hall and Hillcrest Hall are dedicated to non-first-year students only. Matthews and Nicholson Apartments are dedicated to non-first year students who have at least 16 earned cumulative credits at the time they submit their contract.

Will single rooms be offered next year?

Due to the high demand for on-campus housing at OU, we cannot guarantee that single rooms will be available. Students who would like to request single rooms for academic, personal, health-related or disability-related reasons should begin that process by meeting and registering with Disability Support Services.

How should I indicate that I would like to live on a Special Interest Floor?
Most importantly, when you complete your housing contract, make sure you answer "yes" to the question, "Are you interested in living on a Special Interest Floor?" Then:

  • Education Special Interest Floor (Hillcrest Hall)
If you are an education major, you are eligible for this living learning community. If you would like to be a part of this community, please select a room on floor 1 of Hillcrest Hall during room selection. Please note that space is limited.

Do I have to choose a meal plan?
All students living in the residence halls are required to have a meal plan. You should select your preferred meal plan when submitting your housing contract. Apartments residents are not required to have a meal plan, but may purchase a voluntary meal plan, if desired.

What is included in the cost of housing?
The room and board rate includes an all-you-care-to-eat meal plan (residence halls only), utilities, and wireless Internet service (all student rooms).
