Special Education: Emotional Impairment (EI)

Oakland University's Special Education: Emotional Impairment Education programs focus on the broader concepts of exceptionality and in-depth preparation in the area of emotional/behavior disorders. Note: Those interested in earning the EI endorsement independent of the degree may apply directly to the Graduate Certificate in EI:Advanced or EI:Basic.

Delivery Type: 100% online with practicum/student teaching completed at an approved site (if applicable)

Credit required:

  • MEd in Special Education with concentration in Emotional Impairment - 40 credits 
  • Graduate Certificate in Emotional Impairment Education: Basic - 32 to 40 credits
  • Graduate Certificate in Emotional Impairment Education: Advanced - 20 to 36 credits

Who should apply:
Master's Degree: Current certified teachers who are interested in teaching to those with special needs, in particular emotional and behavioral disorders.

EI Education: Advanced Certificate: Teachers who already have one or more special education endorsements who would like to add the Emotional Impairment endorsement to their current teaching certificate.

EI Education: Basic Certificate: Teachers who would like to add the Emotional Impairment endorsement to their current teaching certificate, but do not currently have any special education endorsements.
