The Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) will offer veteran and early career teachers alike the opportunity to learn about new and emerging trends in their content areas. Sponsored by Oakland University and endorsed by the College Board, participation in the AP Institutes will strengthen your school's academic success. For teachers that are new to AP, the program is a chance to become better informed about the fundamentals of the AP program. Oakland University's institute is ideally suited for department chairpersons, gifted and talented teachers and curriculum coordinators.

How do I pay?

Payments can be made by credit card during registration.

What if my school or district is paying for my attendance?

Please have the authorized payor complete one of the following billing authorizations:

I have been awarded an AP Participant Grant—what do I do now?

Email your award confirmation to [email protected], and we will help process your registration.

How can I obtain a W9?

Email [email protected], and we will send you a copy of our current W9.

Do you accept late registrations?

Yes, late registration is accepted until the first day of class. Late registration fees are:

  • Online: $950
  • In Person: $1,050
What is the refund policy?

To be eligible for a 100% refund, students must self-drop before the course start date. This policy applies to short courses, workshops, camps, and conferences that run for one week or less, whether held in person, online, or via distance learning.

  • No refunds for tuition, books, or materials will be issued after the course begins.
  • SCECHs are non-refundable.
What does registration include?

Registration includes a textbook, either as an eBook or a hard copy, depending on the course format (online or in person).

What are the hours of the workshop?

All sessions run Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Participants will receive a lunch break, plus one 15-minute break in the morning and another in the afternoon.

What if I have to miss a day or a few hours?

The College Board requires participants to attend at least 90% of the scheduled hours for the week. If you miss more than 10% of the time, you will not be eligible to receive Michigan SCECHs or a certificate. You must remain logged in at all times for attendance to count.

Is graduate credit available?

No, graduate credit is not offered.

Will SCECHs be offered?

Yes. 30 Contact Hours will be awarded. Teachers needing to submit State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) to the State of Michigan can request them.

  • The processing fee is $25.
  • Requests must be submitted no later than the end of the day on Tuesday of each session.
  • A valid PIC number is required to receive SCECHs.
What is the format for the Online APSI?

All sessions are held live via Zoom.
Please log in early using the Zoom link provided by your instructor.

You can also access your Zoom link by logging into your course at moodle.oakland.edu using your NetID and password.
If you do not have login information, email [email protected].
If you experience technical issues, click the "Get Help" button at the top of the Moodle website.

Will I need to have my camera on during the online APSI?

No, but you must remain logged in at all times for your attendance to count.

Are the buildings accessible?

Yes, all buildings are fully accessible to all.

Where do I park?

Free parking is available near each building.

What housing options will be available?

A discounted rate is offered to attendees at select hotels. Please refer to the "Recommended Hotels" dropdown on the registration page for more details.

Is lunch provided?

Lunch is not provided. However, you are welcome to bring your own lunch or visit one of several convenient dining options on or near campus:
