Business Ambassadors

A dedicated team of student leaders, Oakland Business Ambassadors represent the OU School of Business Administration at events across the campus and community. You can find Business Ambassadors at recruiting, orientation, alumni, career and business leader events.

Business Ambassadors are a vital resource for current and prospective business students and their families.

2024-2025 Business Ambassador Recruitment Timeline

  • Application Opens: Thursday, January 4, 2024
  • Application Closes: Thursday, January 25, 2024
  • Interviews Start: Monday, January 29 - Thursday, Feb 8, 2024
  • New Ambassadors announced for the Fall 2024/Winter 2025 Academic Year: Monday, February 12, 2024

Students selected as Business Ambassadors develop skills in:

  • Leadership
  • Group dynamics
  • Public speaking
  • Presentation development

To qualify for the program you must:

  • Have attended OU in the previous semester
  • Be familiar with Oakland University
  • Be a pre-business or business major
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Commit to at least four volunteer events in both fall AND winter terms which may include nights and weekends, as well as semester trainings

The current team of Business Ambassador include students representing all of the business majors as well as a host of different backgrounds and life stories. Meet a few of the Business Ambassadors below!

Have you had any internships? If yes, what was the most important lesson from that experience?
Yes, Aflac. The most important lesson I have learned being at Aflac is that your opportunity will come unexpectedly and you have to be prepared to take it, you won't find it again!

Motivation: Zane values the opportunities to grow through Oakland University’s “interconnected” student organizations.

“I chose Oakland because of its strong cybersecurity program and for the many awesome academic opportunities at Oakland.”

More: Zane also finds support with other students who share his studies as a member of the Association for Information Society.

Have you had any internships? If yes, what was the most important lesson from that experience? I have my first internship this summer at American Axle Manufacturing- Headquarters Location in Detroit. The most important lesson I have learned from them is to build your network with people that have similar interests.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program? Meeting a ton of amazing people and being able to network.

Why did you choose to major in business?
I chose to study finance because it offers a deep understanding of how money, investments, and financial markets work. I really like the analytical and quantitative skills involved and the potential for strong earnings.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program?
Business scholars is great because it brings together all sorts of business students. It's a collaboration of different ideas, passions, and cultures. Working alongside equally motivated people is awesome. It's really a unique group.

Why did you choose Oakland University?

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program? 
Oakland University's business program stands out for its dynamic curriculum that integrates real-world experiences, fostering practical skills. The emphasis on experiential learning, internships, and strong industry connections equips students with a competitive edge. The program's innovative approach prepares graduates for success in the ever-evolving business landscape.

Why did you choose to major in business?
I majored in business because it allows me the flexibility to try different fields and learn how to be an effective leader in today’s work force.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program?
The best part about the business program at Oakland University is having the flexibility and support that you need to be successful. From choosing a major to finding internships and full time jobs, the staff and students at OU are both incredibly responsive and passionate about lifting each other up.

Why did you choose to major in business?
I chose to major in business because all organizations regardless of industry, rely on business principals to thrive. Therefore, business degrees are in demand everywhere. On top of this, I find my practical skills (communication, teamwork, leadership, etc..) to be very strong and a good match for such a major.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program?
I personally find the ACHIEVE courses very interesting.
They teach you all the basic things about personal finance, that many wish they had learned in high school. The courses are lightweight, laidback, and very enjoyable. The material I learn in these classes makes me smack my head in surprise that I am just know being taught this.

Why did you choose to major in business?
I chose finance because I have always been intrigued by the intricacies of market dynamics and the transactions between a buyer and seller. I am always amazed to find that there is a market for everything, whether its for equity, bonds, or cattle.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program?
Meeting new people and learning more about the great programs at OU.

What activities/organizations are you involved with on campus?
I am president of DECA and a member of the Pre-Law Club, Creative Writing Club, Out for Business, Women in Business, and, last but definitely not least, the Business Honors Program!

Most interesting aspect of the business program?
My favorite aspect is the sense of community and amount of student orgs related to all aspects of business. There is very little that is off limits if you are interested!

Why did you choose to major in business?
I chose to major in business because I've always been fascinated by the dynamics of the corporate world and the way businesses operate. I'm excited about the opportunity to develop essential skills like problem-solving, strategic thinking, and effective communication – skills that are valuable not just in business, but in various aspects of life. I believe that an accounting degree will equip me with a strong foundation for success in a constantly evolving economy.

What is the most interesting aspect of the business program?
The most interesting aspect of the business program to me is the emphasis on getting hands-on experience. Every advisor heavily suggests getting in contact with current working business professionals to see how their day-to-day is, and to see if that is the correct career choice for you. I also really like all the resources they provide to students in order to get them internships and ahead start in the business world.
