This active workshop will explore the various career paths available to graduate students with their degrees. Explore how you can take steps to determine your best career fit and how you can prepare for the career of your choice. Students will improve their resumes, determine paths to further develop their employability, and improve interviewing skills.
Panel composed of Dr. Kelly Berishaj, Associate Professor of Nursing; Dr. Tomoko Wakabayashi, Associate Professor, Department of Human Development and Child Studies Coordinator, Early Childhood Education Ph.D. Program; and Dr. Caress Dean, Chairperson of Public and Environmental Wellness, Associate Professor of Public Health at OU.
This panel will examine the primary roles of a professor—research, service, and teaching—and demonstrate how understanding your personal narrative can guide your contributions in these areas. Learn to articulate your achievements within these domains and develop a framework for applying these roles beyond academia. The session will also emphasize the importance of mentorship and collaboration for career success. A Q&A segment will follow; please bring any questions you have.

This workshop will explore how a teaching statement can best guide you in becoming an effective and impactful educator. It will utilize dynamic instruction, reflective practice, and collaborative exercises to help you get to the heart of powerful and effective teaching, both in the classroom and in industry. You will leave this workshop with a strong foundation from which to tackle and succeed in your teaching practice, in the university setting and beyond.

Work and life: We have all heard those two coupled together, but they are not the same. Your work is not your life. This workshop will explore the various ways in which work can take over our lives and leave us burned out and reeling. You will also explore and equip yourself with strategies to prevent this from happening. Lastly, you will delve into the resources at your disposal to help you as you navigate your career in a sustainable and functional way.
