Teaching and AI

With tools that can write a “passable” paper, how do we adjust our assessment and teaching practices accordingly? Do we allow students to use it, and engage in discussions of how they will use it in the discipline work and careers? What authentic assessment practices keep students engaged in learning while not overburdening teachers?

This syllabus provides some preliminary learning materials along with opportunities to discuss these topics online and on campus.

Learning Together

Teaching & AI: Learning Community and Practice Labs

Focusing on what AI means for our courses and what to do accordingly, this semester’s offerings include a Teaching & AI learning community that meets twice monthly to talk through and workshop ideas. These discussions will be complemented by e-LIS’ AI sandbox series, each session focusing on sharing one practical idea with plenty of open practice time for whatever you want to see and try.

Teaching with AI: Request Your Course Pass

This eight-module, self-paced course offers a mix of explanation, examples, practice, and application. Teaching with AI Course Access Request Form.

Library Microcourse Builds AI Literacy for Students (and for you)

Learners can use OU Libraries’ micro-course on AI Literacy to gain critical thinking skills about generative AI, and it's designed to support students and faculty as they consider the potential uses, limitations, and issues related to such tools. As with the Libraries’ other online learning objects, students will earn a badge upon successful completion (score of 80%+).
