Non-Degree Seeking Students

Oakland University offers you opportunities for professional development and personal enrichment at the graduate level, without pursuing a full graduate degree.

Non-Degree students

To be admitted as a non-degree student, please submit

  • Online application for admission 
    1. Click the link above
    2. Create your account. Make note of your email and password for future log in. 
    3. Click create a new application or apply online
    4. Select your application
      • There is no application charge for non-degree applications submitted.  
    5. Fill out the application and click submit.
      • After submitting your application, you will be able to upload your transcript or any additional documents required.
        • To upload a document, select your submitted application and upload your transcript. 
  • Copy of a transcript with a bachelor’s degree posted (if your bachelor’s degree was completed outside the U.S., a transcript evaluation by a NACES member is required. Many applicants use World Educational Services or Educational Credential Evaluators).
  • If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will also be required to provide proof of your current immigration status. International students on an F-1 student visa may not be admitted to OU with professional development status.
ASAP | Non-Degree international students

To be admitted as a non-degree international student, please submit

  • Copy of transcript(s) - translated into English - providing evidence of an earned degree (i.e., baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree)
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Proof of financial support

Graduate non-degree students who later decide to seek admission to a graduate program must submit a graduate application for Admission and adhere to all application requirements specified by the Graduate School and graduate program.

Graduate courses completed in a graduate non-degree admission classification will appear on an OU graduate transcript.

Guest students

If you’re admitted to a graduate degree program at another accredited institution and wish to take courses at Oakland University for purposes of credit transfer, you should apply as a guest student. Please remember

  • Enrollment for all guest students is limited to 12 credit hours
  • Graduate guest students are typically admitted to Oakland University for one semester only

Applicants admitted to degree programs at one of the Michigan institutions listed below and wishing to take courses at Oakland University for purposes of credit transfer must apply by using the Michigan Intercollegiate Graduate Studies (MIGS) Program Application Form

Regular guest student

Regular guest students are graduate students who are admitted to degree programs at institutions other than the Michigan institutions listed above.

Graduate guest applicants who are not admitted at one of the institutions listed above can use the guest application to apply. You must submit a letter of good standing from your registrar's office confirming that you are currently in a graduate degree program and in good academic standing.

Please consult your adviser at your home institution regarding the ability to transfer specific credits to your program.
