New Student Orientation Agenda

During New Student Orientation, you and your guests will get an in-depth look at Oakland University’s student resources and support services. Students will meet with their academic adviser, register for classes, and engage with faculty, staff, and fellow new students. Throughout the day, students and their guests will participate in both shared sessions and separate breakout sessions designed to address the unique questions and needs of each group.

Orientation runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please plan to arrive early for check-in and note that participation in the full session is required.

Lunch will be provided for the student and up to two guests. This event is intended for guests ages 16 and older.

A detailed schedule and session information will be shared after May 1, but here’s a preview of what you can expect:

  • Course Registration and Academic Advising: Students will register for their first year of classes with the support of their adviser. Students will receive personalized guidance on their academic plan, course selection, and degree requirements.
  • Explore Academic Areas of Interest: Students and supporters will meet with staff from their school or college advising offices to learn more about their academic programs or interest as well as degree requirements.
  • Financial Aid & Scholarships: Students will learn how to access their financial aid package, understand scholarship opportunities, and get tips on managing college finances.
  • Explore Campus Resources: Discover the support services available at OU -  from tutoring and career guidance to student involvement and wellness programs.
  • Housing Tours: Explore on-campus housing options and see what living on campus is like firsthand.
  • Connect with Other Students: Meet fellow Golden Grizzlies, Orientation Group Leaders, and First Year Assistants who will support students through their first year.

We’re excited to welcome you to the Golden Grizzly Family!
