Welcome to your new beginning! New Student Orientation is your first step toward becoming part of the Oakland University community. You will learn about campus resources, meet with an academic adviser, and register for courses.
Step 1 - Activate Your OU Account
Before you register for orientation, you first need to activate your account. To do this, click on the NetID Activation page and follow each step.
Step 2 - Register for Orientation
We have several orientation sessions starting in November. To view availability and register, you must log in to your admitted student portal using your email and password that you applied with. Orientation is exclusively for students; we are unable to accommodate guests.
If you need to reschedule, log in to your admitted student portal to select a new date.To update your current reservation or to reschedule visit your admitted student portal. Please contact our office at [email protected] or call us at 248-370-GOLD with any questions or concerns you may have.

Step 3 - Prepare for Orientation
Submit Your Scores or Complete Placement Tests
To ensure the most accurate course recommendations and schedule, it is important for students to submit SAT/ACT scores or to take placement exams ahead of orientation.
Once you’ve signed up for orientation, if we require you to complete any of these items, it will be listed in your personalized MySail portal.
- Login at the top right corner of the MySail homepage with your NetID and password.
- Click “Tasks” on the left hand navigation to view what needs to be completed.

Submit College Credit Earned
If you have been dual enrolled or participated in an early/middle college program, send your official college transcript to OU prior to orientation. To submit your transcripts, follow these directions:

If you have taken Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or CLEP tests, have your official scores sent to OU prior to orientation.
