Dr. Alfred (Fred) Stransky
Dr. Alfred (Fred) Stransky’s contributions to the School of Health Sciences and Oakland University have left a lasting impact. Chairing the committee that recommended the advancement of the Center for Health Sciences to School status, Dr. Stransky’s leadership resulted in the exercise science and undergraduate physical therapy programs. He proposed, developed and directed the Meadow Brook Health Enhancement Institute, providing health and educational support to physician residents in training and OU’s exercise science students. Dr. Stransky established an exercise physiology laboratory and cardiac rehabilitation program on campus, strongly advocated for smoking cessation and restrictions before this became a national trend, and was part of a study that recommended a medical school at OU. In recognition of his visionary contributions, the School of Health Sciences presents Dr. Stransky with the HALL Award in 2018.
