ECLIPSE Mission

To foster students’ abilities to become leaders within and beyond our communities through diverse, student-centered, collaborative, and interprofessional experiences — in purpose for health.

ECLIPSE Vision

Through practiced leadership as a collaborative effort, ECLIPSE graduates will be unique assets to diverse health-related professions as they perform with the purpose of improving the lives of others.

The ECLIPSE Experience

ECLIPSE is a two-year, no-cost program that enables students to master the four competencies of ECLIPSE (communication, teamwork, roles and values), health care leadership and interprofessionalism. While in the program, students will expand their network, engage in experience-based learning opportunities and connect with a community centered in compassion, care and camaraderie.

ECLIPSE aligns with the OU Pledge, OU Strategic Vision 2030, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) 8 Competencies and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies to provide students with a structured, accessible and high-impact experience.

ECLIPSE Courses

IPE 2000: Provides students with foundational mastery of the four ECLIPSE competencies (communication, teamwork, roles/responsibilities and values/ethics) as well as leadership and interprofessional education.

IPE 2010: Introduces students to research design, literature review and health care ethics. Foundational knowledge will be applied towards the completion of an interprofessional case study.

IPE 3000: Provides students with the opportunity to employ ECLIPSE competencies, leadership and interprofessional education (IPE) through connection with a community partner via the completion of a Community Health Impact Project (CHIP).

IPE 3010: Provides students with the opportunity to complete an independent capstone, including connection with the local community via the completion of an independent, service-related field experience. Includes the completion of assignments that delve into career exploration and readiness.

• Leadership curriculum through flexible online modules and faculty-guided instruction
• In-person engagement experience through student-led, applied learning events
• Community partner engagement to provide real-world professional interactions
• Core competency application for demonstration of leadership skill mastery
• Volunteer and service requirements to practice leadership through service

ECLIPSE Awards

Dr. Kevin A. Ball Engagement Award
Recognizing exceptional mastery of the ECLIPSE competencies, meaningful connections within the campus community, and positive impact at Oakland University and beyond — in purpose for Health. Named after the School of Health Sciences’ outgoing Dean, this highest honor an ECLIPSE student can receive acknowledges those who truly live the ECLIPSE and School of Health Sciences’ missions to develop students into leaders that impact the health needs of our communities.

The ECLIPSE Service Award
Recognizing outstanding volunteer service, contributions to the ECLIPSE program and meaningful impact on the lives of those in need – in purpose for Health. Award recipients often dedicate a large amount of time to service work for communities in need, represent ECLIPSE at campus events and exemplify the competencies of communication, teamwork, roles and values in their personal lives.
