Pre-Clinical Professions

If you desire a flexible academic program that aligns with a highly relevant health profession, choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences with a specialization in Pre-clinical Professions. This program offered in the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences prepares you to enter medical or other professional health programs such as physician assistant, dental and optometry, among others. You will have the advantage of a professional foundation in diagnostic laboratory testing that is heavily relied upon in the majority of physicians' decisions related to patient care.

Curriculum

The pre-clinical education consists of 2-4 years of prerequisite and specialized classroom instruction meant to establish competencies in core scientific disciplines. The Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences major requires a cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher for all specializations. For CDS core curriculum and course grade requirements, review the Undergraduate Catalog (see Curricular Requirements).

The curricula for some CDS specializations may require additional courses, depending on the individual professional program requirements. Consult with the CDS adviser for the academic option most suitable for your academic and career goals.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of health care occupations is projected to grow much faster than average, with 1.8 million job openings expected annually.

Average Salary
BLS reports that the median annual wage for health care practitioners and technical occupations was $80,820 in May 2023.
