Research/Scholarship:
Dr. Piesik's scholarly interests are focused on infectious diseases. Infectious disease have historically played a significant role in shaping human health, society and medicine. The ongoing threat of emerging and re-emerging pathogens, coupled with antibiotic resistance and global interconnectedness, continues to make infectious diseases a vital area of interest. Understanding infectious disease from a cultural perspective is crucial for effective prevention and treatment strategies. Culture influences how communities perceive illness, health practices, and interactions with healthcare systems. Recognizing these cultural factors allows health care professionals to design interventions that are respectful, acceptable, and more likely to be adopted by the community.
