Research/Scholarship:
Dr. Rohn is an applied medical anthropologist with a focus on stories in healthcare – particularly, the intersection between patients and providers in the clinical or hospital encounter, as well as the experiences of daily life for each, which may contribute to healthcare delivery. His research areas include persons with spinal cord injury, chronic pain, quality of life, medical education, and the training and making of physicians. His work will move to examine the overlapping trajectories between the lived experiences of people with spinal cord injury and the experiences of the healthcare providers who treat them, and how these two sets of experiences affect medical outcomes. He maintains collaborations with colleagues in the University of Michigan’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and holds a secondary appointment in Oakland University’s Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice.
