Research/Scholarship:
Dr. Kwame Sakyi has devoted most of his training and research over the past eight years to understand the determinants of maternal, neonatal and child well-being in low and middle-income countries and identify interventions to address them. He has sought this understanding through projects relating to infectious diseases (HIV and malaria), developmental disabilities, and maternal and child mental health. Currently, he is the PI of an R25 Research Grant from the NIH to examine how caring for low birthweight infants affect retention of postpartum women in HIV care in Ghana. He is the founder and Director of the Center for Learning and Childhood Development-Ghana, a non-profit organization that focuses on early childhood development. Over the next decade, his goal to translate his understanding of the determinants of maternal, neonatal and child well-being into interventions that saves lives and promote health in this vulnerable population.
