Michael Lutz

Retired Physician and Partner, Michigan Institute of Urology

Dr. Michael Lutz has practiced medicine in Metro Detroit since 1986 and will retire at the end of May 2024 as a partner in the Michigan Institute of Urology (MIU). He served as a co-chair of the Prostate Cancer Task Force for the American Cancer Society in the Great Lakes Region and has served on its regional board. Dr. Lutz was a founding member of one of the first “Us Too” Prostate Cancer Support Group chapters in the state of Michigan and continues to remain active in regional advocacy groups involved in the prevention, diagnosis and management of prostate cancer. He is president of the MIU Men’s Health Foundation.

Dr. Lutz has earned many awards throughout his impressive career. Most recently, these include the Michigan Cancer Consortium Champions Award, the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Barry Breman Inspiration Award, the Michigan Fitness Foundation Director’s Champion for Health, the Molina Healthcare Community Champion, and the Sophie J. Womack, M.D. Humanitarian Achievement Award.

Dr. Lutz has publications in various journals, including the American Journal of Men’s Health, Preventative Medicine, the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, Seminars in Surgical Oncology, and Laser in Medical Science. Throughout his career, he has also presented nationally. One of these presentations includes a 2016 presentation at a White House summit coordinated by the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs in partnership with the Men’s Health Network. His presentation focused on men’s health community outreach and partnership opportunities and its role in evaluating and improving healthcare opportunities to the underserved population.
