Student Leadership Opportunities

One of the many benefits of a Young Honors College education is the guidance you’ll receive from Young Honors College Teaching Assistants, Student Fellows and Faculty Mentors. Whether you are a freshman taking HC1000 or a graduating senior getting ready to submit a thesis - The Young Honors College has all the support you need to succeed.

Teaching Assistants & Dean Student Fellows

Being a Teaching Assistant for The Honors College opens the doors for more opportunities within The Honors College, Oakland University, and beyond.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) are the primary contact for all Young Honors College freshman during their HC 1000 experience, although Young Honors College Staff are always here to assist you should you need additional support and guidance along the way.

You can become a TA during your Young Honors College experience. If you have successfully completed HC 1000 and meet the minimum 3.5 grade point average requirement, you can apply for this paid position.

TAs attend HC 1000 lectures with their group and facilitate Small Group sessions during scheduled class times. Additional time requirements include lesson planning and weekly TA meetings. Two mandatory full-day trainings will take place before the semester begins.

The TA application along with other detailed information will be posted during the winter semester in The Young Honors College "Weekly Announcements" (sent to your Oakland University email).

If you would like to apply for a Dean's Student Fellow position, you must have been a TA for HC 1000. Special consideration will be given for students with two or more years experience as a TA.
