Rationale:To outline the criteria for tuition refunds for students who discontinue enrollment. |
Scope and Applicability:All students enrolled in the School of Medicine |
Standard Practice Guideline:Students are charged for tuition on a semester basis. Students who take a leave of absence (LOA), officially withdraw, or who are suspended or dismissed from the School of Medicine may be entitled to a refund of tuition according to the following schedule:
Procedures:Students are encouraged to meet with Financial Services prior to an enrollment status change. Institutional merit-and needs-based scholarships will be returned to the School of Medicine according to the same schedule as the refund of tuition. |
Request for Exception:Students may request an exception to the refund policy in the event of the following circumstances:
Withdrawing from courses due to insufficient or unsatisfactory academic progress, academic difficulty, suspension, or dismissal are not grounds for an exception to this policy. Exceptions must be requested within 20 university business days of the petition to withdraw or the approval of a leave of absence (LOA) by the Student Performance Review Committee. Requests for an exception should be made using the Enrollment Exception form (linked below). Students with partial enrollment due to an approved pre-planned leave of absence or a delayed graduation may be eligible for prorated tuition. The director of Records and Registration will assemble a review committee containing representatives from OUWB's Offices of Financial Services and Student Affairs. OUWB will endeavor to complete the review process within 20 university business days. |

Definitions:Pre-planned leave of absence: A leave of absence that is approved prior to the 100% tuition refund date for the effected term (by the end of the 2nd week of the semester). |
